Experimental haemarthrosis produces mild inflammation associated with intracellular Maltese crosses.

چکیده
Injection of autologous blood into rabbit joints induces an inflammatory reaction with Maltese cross-like birefringent spherulites. Similar microspherules seen in human joint fluids may be formed by lipids derived from breakdown of erythrocytes and other cells.

Chronic mild prenatal stress exacerbates the allergen-induced airway inflammation in rats.
The effects of chronic mild prenatal stress on leukocyte infiltration into the airways was investigated in rat offspring. The chronic prenatal stress consisted of transitory and variable changes in the rat's living conditions. Offspring at adult age were actively sensitized (day 0) and intratracheally challenged (day 14) with ovalbumin. Bronchoalveolar lavage was performed in the offspring at 4...

متن کاملIdentification of Novel Genetic Risk Loci in Maltese Dogs with Necrotizing Meningoencephalitis and Evidence of a Shared Genetic Risk across Toy Dog Breeds
Necrotizing meningoencephalitis (NME) affects toy and small breed dogs causing progressive, often fatal, inflammation and necrosis in the brain. Genetic risk loci for NME previously were identified in pug dogs, particularly associated with the dog leukocyte antigen (DLA) class II complex on chromosome 12, but have not been investigated in other susceptible breeds. We sought to evaluate Maltese ...
متن کاملHereditary elliptocytosis in two Maltese families.
The findings in two elliptocytic families are recorded and compared. It is the first report of the anomaly in the Maltese population.A variable degree of clinical and haematological expression among the members of the two families has been observed, ranging from healthy individuals with normal cell morphology to others with only elliptocytic erythrocytes and mild anaemia. Two subjects have been...
متن کاملSynovial membrane in experimentally-produced chronic haemarthrosis.
The gross and light microscopical changes that occur in the synovial membrane in human chronic haemarthrosis are well documented (Key, 1932; Ghormley and Clegg, 1948; Collins, 1951; De Palma and Cotler, 1956; Rodnan, Brower, Hellstrom, Didisheim, and Lewis, 1959) and virtually every change seen in man has been reproduced in the experimental animal (Key, 1929; Young and Hudacek, 1954; Wolf and M...
